Two Types:

1. Multimode Fiber - Used for short range communications (up to 2 km)
   • Typically uses inexpensive light source (LED)
   • Large core - single "modes" of light
2. Single-mode Fiber - Used for long range communication (up to 100km)
   • Expensive light source (laser beams)
   • Small core - single "mode" of light
